bO “BARCELONA”
Antonio Bonet, the only native of Spain in the trio of authors of the BKF chair, was born in Barcelona. It was here that he began his professional career as a collaborator in the architectural studio of Josep Lluís Sert and Torres Clavé. It was after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War that he decided to move to Río de la Plata, in Buenos Aires. It was in this city where he created, together with Kurchan and Ferrari, this benchmark of modern design in 1938. In its more than eighty years of history, the Butterfly Chair has travelled the world, and no wonder: it is an icon of elegance and good taste.
After a long journey, Bonet returns to Barcelona. In his native city he designed La Ricarda in 1963 and the Canódromo Meridiana, for which he was awarded the FAD prize for architecture, among other works. He finally died in the city where he was born in 1989.
